The Job
The Native American Fellowship position provides an opportunity to work with the Chair of the Arts of the Americas, and other museum professionals to enhance skills and experience through research, care, curation, partnerships, and interpretation of Native American art, as well as learn about all aspects of museum work by interacting with staff from Advancement, Audience, Curatorial, Registration, and Facilities.
In this role, you will…
1. Assist on projects for the Arts of the Americas’ curatorial team including exhibition development, curation, research, history, culture, language and scholarship opportunities utilizing archives, or community knowledge.
2. Support the Chair of the Arts of Americas in research related to National Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Program.
3. Support Native community outreach and partnerships by collaboration with Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Hocokata Ti Cultural Center in partnership with the Native Relations Team and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
4. Build relationships with tribal communities to ensure projects are conducted in a culturally sensitive manner.
5. Participate in other Mia groups such as Native American programming and interpretations and the Native Relations cross functional team.

To play an integral role in executing the museum’s vision in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors with a particular focus on planned giving and complex gift strategies. This position leads the administration and strategic direction of the museum’s planned giving initiatives. Collaborates with and provides technical expertise in all aspects of planned giving, including tax and charitable components, to colleagues and prospective and current donors as well as their advisors. Acts as a key ambassador through personal contact with donors and prospects.
In this role, you will…
1. Meet fundraising goals for unrestricted, restricted, and planned gifts from individuals.
· Manage portfolio of 75-100+ major and planned gift prospects to secure unrestricted annual and special project and campaign gifts to meet identified institutional goals. Take timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This position is expected to raise between $500,000 - 1,000,000 annually in unrestricted, restricted, and/or planned gifts, meet metrics for donor contacts and proposals, and meet additional goals to support capital campaign as identified.
· Create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and fundraising strategy, with a focus on one-on-one donor meetings to establish and strengthen donor relationships for long term support.
· Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive planned giving program that aligns with the museum’s fundraising goals. Serve as a philanthropic planning advisor to planned gift prospects and their advisors to produce current and deferred planned gifts to benefit Mia. Recommend key messages, collateral materials, and targeted communication strategies to produce in partnership with Advancement and Audience divisions.
· Collaborate with gift officers and internal partners to support complex planned giving conversations across the museum. Partner, coach, equip and encourage colleagues in the pursuit of planned giving opportunities while assisting in the design and implementation of gifts and individualized donor strategies.
· Manage planned giving administration in partnership with Finance Division, including, but not limited to: gift documentation and agreements, estate administration, CGA registrations, stewardship of the museum’s endowment funds, and charitable trusts.
· Organize and conduct internal training on charitable planning, gift planning vehicles, and tax-wise philanthropic strategies.
· Maintain technical expertise while staying current on tax and other legislative changes that impact donors and planned giving.
· Produce or assist with draft documents, calculations, proposals, endowment agreements and other necessary materials as needed by prospects, donors and advisors.
· Maintain an active, current body of knowledge of Mia and its mission, programs, activities, institutional needs, and fundraising priorities, as well as the advancement field and planned giving trends and vehicles.
· Participate in development of creative and customized benefits, events, and communications, and recommend and manage communication.
2. Communicate and report on activities to department team and other key staff.

In this role, you will…
· Report to and assist the Curator of Japanese and Korean Art / Director of the Clark Center.
· Interpret the museum’s collections of Japanese and Korean art through permanent collection gallery displays and didactic materials. Propose and oversee regular gallery rotations. Speak publicly about the museum’s collection and provide training for museum guides so that they can accurately and knowledgeably represent the collection.
· Conduct research on the permanent collection and mount special exhibitions, with accompanying publications that add to the field of knowledge about Japanese and Korean art. Such exhibitions should be of the scale of Mia’s Cargill and/or US Bank Galleries, but do not preclude larger-scale shows.

· Locate, research, and propose acquisitions of Japanese and Korean works of art that significantly augment the museum’s existing collections. Review the museum collections of Japanese and Korean art for potential deaccessions. Maintain a current knowledge of the art market and professional relations with art dealers.
· Develop and coordinate lectures and activities pertaining to Japanese and Korean art. Foster and maintain relationships with trustees, collectors, potential donors, and the general public, including community outreach.

The Job
To heighten the profile of the South and Southeast Asian and Islamic Art collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Art through significant acquisitions, ambitious and intellectually rigorous exhibitions, publications and programs. To cultivate relationships with donors, professional colleagues, partner organizations and the community at large in furtherance of Mia’s strategic goals. To responsibly manage the museum’s collection of South and Southeast Asian and Islamic Art, ensuring proper documentation, maintenance, display and conservation.
In this role, you will…
1. Locate, research, and recommend important works of art for acquisition.
- Develop and maintain a Collection Development Plan that articulates the collection’s strengths and weaknesses and that recommends strategic collecting goals based on the museum’s holdings and the market.
- Foster relationships with collectors locally and nationally, actively soliciting their help in enhancing the collection.
- Communicate and maintain positive relationships with dealers.
- With the approval of the Head of Department, Chief Curator, and/or Director, solicit funds from individuals and groups.
2. Conceptualize, organize, and execute special exhibitions that provide fresh insights and new ways of understanding human creativity.
- Develop thematic concept and conduct research leading to object selection.
- With museum colleagues establish learning objectives and interpretive goals.
- Seek out potential venues for the exhibition (should it be able to travel).
- Research and invite experts to contribute intellectual capital.
- With the approval of the Chair, Chief Curator, and Director, solicit funds from individuals and groups.
3. Interpret the permanent collection through rotations, special projects, general and scholarly publications, public speaking and teaching. Oversee management of the collection on display, in special exhibitions, in storage, and on loan. Work collaboratively with members of museum staff to:
- Plan installations and participate in the generation of support materials such as visitor-friendly didactic panels and labels. Rotate displays as necessary for conservation and educational reasons.
- Prepare publications that will enhance the general and scholarly understanding of the collection.
- Conduct research and field work that supports the interpretation of the collection.
- Prepare lectures for the general public, museum support groups, and the scholarly community on issues relating to the collection.
- Oversee the conservation and security of works.
- Utilize knowledge of aesthetic and historical significance, as well as monetary value, to prioritize care and maintenance.
- Maintain files on all objects.
- Review loan requests from other institutions and make recommendations about the suitability of lending based in the validity of the project, the condition of the object, and Mia’s exhibition plans.
4. Cultivate relationships with museum members, trustees, staff, and the public.
- Serve as a professional resource for members of the community, including private collectors.
- Develop programming for the museum’s South and Southeast Asian and Islamic Art.
- Foster relationships with members of the public (artists, scholars, critics, community groups) by encouraging their interest in Mia, its collections and its mission.
5. Assist Chair of Asian Art with supervising department:

The Guides and Tours Specialist ensures an engaging and informative experience for visitors of all ages by training guides to offer tours and interactive experiences. This individual is responsible for enhancing and evaluating both the student and guide experience, fostering learning, and promoting the museum’s mission and exhibitions.
In this role, you will…
1. Guide Program Training and Development: In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Guides and Volunteers, assist in creating and delivering learning workshops for Guides, developing educational content for both in-person and self-guided museum tours, and establishing best practices and procedures for all tour programs. Supports the Guides office to ensure the delivery of high-quality tours that meet visitors' needs and help attract and retain volunteers in support of the Museum’s mission. This may include, but is not limited to:
· Assist with the ongoing implementation of the full Guide lifecycle program and processes including recruiting, onboarding, learning and development, coaching, evaluation and feedback, and off-boarding / honorary status.
· Deliver and train Guides on guided and self-guided educational content that is tailored to school tour groups and diverse student learning styles.
· Provide Guides with clear and accurate information about the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and cultural significance.
· Works with Curatorial division staff to provide Guides with training necessary to stay current with gallery rotations, new accessions, and special exhibitions and ensure all programming and tours are aligned with museum goals, initiatives, and educational standards.
· Maintain designated office hours in the Guide lounge for questions and support, and lead quarterly school guide meetings.
· Train Guides on how to manage student group dynamics, keeping tours informative, engaging, and positively reflecting Mia's values.
2. Tours Content
· In consultation with the Senior Manager Guides and Volunteers and key stakeholders, create tour scripts, educational materials, and resources in print and/or digital formats that are adaptable to a variety of audiences and require minimal updates, ensuring consistency and sustainability across all school tours.
· Provide Guides with current information about exhibits and collections, notifying them of any changes, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
· Lead dynamic and interactive tours for diverse school group audiences, provide back-up for the Guides and Tours Specialist I (Adults).
3. Guide Communications
· Interact positively and professionally with Guides, and respond to questions or address feedback in a timely and appropriate manner.
· Adapt communications or presentations based on Guide needs.
· Foster positive relationships with Guides and Volunteers, ensuring all communication reflects the museum’s core values and mission. In addition, maintain a professional and positive view of the organization, employees, and strategic initiatives with Guides and Volunteers.
· Support Guide Newsletter with articles and messages on a quarterly basis and send weekly updates to Guides on changes to museum collections, resource materials, upcoming trainings and continuing education opportunities, office hours and other messaging from the division as needed.
· Design Tour Checklist for all Guides to use on tours to create a consistent experience and ensure key elements aren’t missed.
4. Guide Program Evaluations
· Shadow tours and provide real time feedback and coaching with Guides on a regular basis.
· Hold Guides accountable for meeting all facets of guide policies, procedures and tour program best practices, by consistently addressing any needs immediately in a productive, professional manner.
· Based on evaluation insights provided, identify opportunities for training and improvements.

The Job
Prepare works of art on paper and canvas for exhibition and storage. Working with the Registration Department, schedule matting and framing workflow.
In this role, you will…
· Mat, glaze, mount, and frame prints, drawings, and photographs for all curatorial departments and for Community Commons needs. Glaze and frame paintings using existing frames, but also construct or modify frames as warranted. Remove art from frames and mats, remove hinges and tape, perform some minor conservation.
· Consistently address the backlog of unmounted works on paper for storage by matting and hinging as necessary.
· Working with manager and Registration, prioritize matting and framing requests submitted by various departments. Answer technical questions concerning framing and presentation of works on paper.
· Maintain technical room and inventory of workroom supplies, including frames and framing stock. Order necessary framing and matting materials. Order custom frames as necessary.
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Requirements:
Required:
· Five years of related work experience, knowledge of proper art handling techniques, and knowledge of accepted conservation practices.
· Basic computer skills.
Preferred:
· College degree in studio art or art history.

Building Services Manager

The Job
Hands-on facility operations leader who can balance facilities expertise and exceptional people skills to lead a team and deliver results. Focus on process improvement related to the maintenance of the building components, including locks/doors, roofs, walls, office moves and janitorial. Coordinate, track, and drive scheduled, preventative and proactive work related to building related systems.
In this role, you will…
1. Oversee building service delivery
· Supervise the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment, as well as custodial operations on the Mia campus.
· Assess the condition and performance of the facility.
· Monitor progress and facilitate prioritization of work orders, preventative maintenance and repairs.
· Develop and implement service level expectations regarding the timely response and execution of repairs, updates and cleaning.
· Working with staff, develop a robust PM program.
· Inspect buildings, site and equipment with staff to determine maintenance and repair needs, and sets the schedule for effective execution.
· Create reports on efficiency and effectiveness.
· Maintain and updates CMMS
· Manage and review service contracts.
· Manage procurement of parts, tools, equipment and supplies.
· With the Head of Facilities, track and review budget related to repairs and maintenance.
· Review and maintain replacement parts inventory.
· Ensure permits and licenses are current and up to date.
· Lead and coordinate emergency response to campus emergencies.
· Provide department leadership in the absence of Head of Facilities.
2. Supervise and lead staff
· Responsible for hiring, promotion, and corrective action.
· Determine appropriate daily staffing, including weekend, holiday, overtime and on-call schedule.
· Set clear work direction, lead by example, coach, problem solve and promote teamwork.
· Assign and prioritize work for the team via CMMS program
· Plan, schedule, and manage complex building maintenance, operation, repair and custodial activities.
· Communicate organizational messages.
· Provide regular professional development opportunities.
· Establish, maintain, and support Mia workplace culture.
· Approve vacation and sick leave requests.
· Safety and other role specific training.
· Perform quarterly and annual performance reviews.
· Monitor and enforce policies and procedures.
· Assess the neatness, accuracy, and thoroughness of work.
3. Project Leadership
· Plan, schedule and manage complex and routine maintenance, operation and repair projects related to the campus.
· Keep building systems in good working order; respond quickly and effectively when equipment goes down.
· Track and report on schedule and budget related to repair and replacement projects.
· Work with the Head of Facilities to establish short and long term capital projects, as it relates to the physical plant.
· Work with Facilities Operations Coordinator to communicate project plans and impact out to Mia staff and our partners.
4. Other
· Determine training needs for the department and coordinate.
· Serve on committees as assigned.
· Provide support for other facility related activities.

Requirements:
· Vocational or College degree, preferably related to building operations and management, or closely related field
· Relevant experience in building maintenance and operations including: planning and scheduling complex repairs and upgrades, planning and scheduling preventative maintenance for multiple facilities
· Minimum of three years’ related work experience leading hands-on, technical work
· Comfort and familiarity with construction, buildings and their care
· Ability to respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies as needed
· Experience in a cultural institution a plus
