Now Hiring – Sales Associate (Casual, hours vary)

Part Time. Starting salary $14.25 per hour

The Retail Store at Mia is seeking candidates with excellent customer service skills to fill part time sales positions. Sales Associates are responsible for engaging and inviting visitors to enjoy The Store at Mia, while contributing to our mission of community enrichment.

We are looking for applicants to fill varying shifts, Thursday through Sunday, with the addition of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings in the near future . Applicants must have both weekday and weekend availability.

Current Retail Store Hours: 

Thursdays  9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Sundays 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In this role, you will…

· Greet and engage visitors while projecting a helpful, warm and friendly interaction.

· Provide style/design recommendations and assistance during each guest’s shopping experience.

· Deliver excellent service while striving to act in the best interest of the visitor.

· Actively contribute to the growth and development of the retail team.

· Participate in the cultivation of a teamwork-focused environment.

· Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Specific Requirements

· High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the job.

· One to three years of experience in the field of retail or other customer focused environment.

· Demonstrated ability to provide an excellent visitor experience.

· Strong communication, organization, problem solving and attention to detail skills.

· Ability to work well and pleasantly with the public in a fast paced environment.

· Highly motivated and task oriented.

· Ability to operate sales register and make accurate transactions.

General Maintenance Carpenter

Facilities Department

Full time, 37.5 hours/week, Union Position

Starting Hourly Rate: $33.63 - $34.54 depending on qualifications

The Job

The Facilities Carpenter is responsible for doing general carpentry and cabinetry work at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in addition to general maintenance duties. This position will also perform locksmith duties.

In this role, you will….

· Build, finish, and install carpentry construction, including cabinetry, wall, office construction, office furniture, plaster finishing and laminate work. Work in conjunction with the Head of the Facilities to plan and carry out projects.

· Develop construction layouts, estimate project costs and order supplies and materials.

· Perform carpentry work on flooring including concrete and cement.

· Perform metal work such as welding, cutting and grinding.

· Perform locksmith duties including repairing, installing and tracking inventory of locksets.

· Perform office moves and build and install office equipment.

You enjoy building things and have demonstrated experience with cabinet construction. You can develop a project plan and coordinate with others to bring the project to completion in a timely manner and on budget. You thrive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities. You are able to operate standard construction tools and equipment properly and safely to promote a safe working environment for yourself and the team.

Specific Requirements

· Journeyman carpentry experience with cabinet construction.

· Ability to read construction blueprints.

· Able to properly use all wood-working equipment, metal tools, welding equipment, masonry tools, paint spray equipment, scissor lifts, hand tools, and locksmith tools and equipment.

· Ability to perform heavy lifting of at least 50 pounds.

· Able to take initiative and work independently as needed.

· Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record check.

· Vocational or trade school degree/certificate a plus.

Visitor Experience Representative

Casual positions, hours and days vary, including evenings and weekends, 24+ hours/week

Hourly Rate: $14.25

Approximately November 8, 2021 – January 8, 2022

The Job

Welcome visitors to the museum by listening, orienting and assisting them to make sure they have everything they need to have a phenomenal experience. Help visitors feel included, encourage them to see new galleries and try new programs, advise them on what the museum has to offer. Perform sales duties, update customer records, and keep database accurate. Represent Mia in a positive and professional manner in all interactions with visitors, volunteers, and museum staff.

In this role, you will….

· Provide exceptional customer service by crafting a welcoming, accessible, accepting, and audience-focused experience for a diverse population of visitors.

· Assist visitors and My Mia members by providing information and services at multiple sites and channels that will improve the visitor’s experience.

· Verbally relay museum guidelines and rules.

· Distribute objects like maps or audio devices.

· Suggest Mia’s galleries, exhibitions, programs, or events to improve the visitor’s experience.

· Provide general website/technical support to visitors and callers.

· Answer questions and resolve concerns.

· Maintain composure under pressure and/or in a busy environment.

· Take registrations to museum offerings and process sales.

· Clearly explain and promote My Mia and donations.

· Look up and enter all required data in the ticketing/database software and issue tickets or order confirmations as needed.

· Assist with lobby traffic, internal clients, and with school and tour groups, planned or unplanned.

· Staff events and programs throughout the museum inside and outside of regular museum hours.
