The Job

Helps achieve division fundraising goals for major individual and planned gifts by coordinating the production of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials, supporting gift processing for the department. Supports the Senior Head of Advancement, Senior Major & Planned Gifts Officer, Senior Gifts Officer, and Major & Planned Gifts Officers. Provides exceptional customer service, assisting with division donor events and communications. 

 

 

In this role, you will…

1. Initiate and coordinate the production of cultivation, solicitation, and recognition pieces for major and planned giving–including monthly solicitations, weekly stewardship, endowment reports, invoices and pledges reminders, and other division communications; Establish professional communication, meet deadlines, and ensure timely and accurate production and delivery.


2. Manage intake of daily gifts, ensuring accurate and timely organization of donors, amounts, and designations. Work closely with Finance and Gift Entry colleagues to ensure accurate reporting of daily gifts. Serve as a backup for Data Entry Processor position. 


3. Assist with research on major donor and planned giving prospects, utilizing wealth screening reports, search engines, database analytics, and other institutional and public information and technology. Prepare written prospect and donor profiles, lists, and donor briefings. Maintain accurate electronic and paper files on all major donors.


4. Perform administrative duties for the Major and Planned Gifts department. Provide front-line customer service to major donors. Coordinate Salesforce needs and requests; provide technical troubleshooting; identify solutions and process improvements; document cases in database. Participate in Advancement division events supporting fundraising goals, such as annual Gala and exhibition openings, performing related duties as required or assigned.

The Job

In collaboration with and under the direction of the Manager of Programming, the Programs Specialist is responsible for the creation, support and execution of Mia's onsite and offsite content, programs, and events for multigenerational audiences. They are also responsible for collaborating with the Learning & Programming team, engaging external partners, executing tasks, and ensuring deliverables and initiatives are delivered on schedule.

 

In this role, you will…

1. Develop and execute events and programs for multigenerational audiences, making sure programmatic themes and elements are in line with strategic goals and initiatives and support the permanent collection and special exhibitions.

  • Increase audience engagement via a wide variety of programming that addresses the broad range of the museum’s collections and exhibitions and promote access and equitable participation. 
  • Develop relationships with community stakeholders and organizations to co-create programs, to advance the quality, reach, impact, relevance, and variety of programming.
  • Effectively work with event and program partners, new and ongoing (e.g. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and YMCA).
  • Create guidelines for and co-create projects with artists, musicians, performers, and instructors for events to directly tie their expertise to the collection and exhibitions. Begin contracts for Manager to review.
  • Coordinate all aspects of programs including working with the Events and Visitor Experience teams on the logistical implementation of large-scale programs. 
  • Responsible for being the onsite coordinator and staffing events and programs. 
  • Oversee work of program activity assistants.
  • Propose, track and balance budget for programs and events. 
  • Work with the Advancement department to support funding initiatives. 
  • Work with DEI division on community partnerships.

 

2. Communications

  • Collaborate with Communications team to promote programs and events in e-newsletters, website, and social media. Write copy, arrange for editing, design and printing of all promotion. 
  • Produce event overviews for internal distribution.

 

3. Active member of Learning & Programming team 

  • Collaborate with Learning & Programming colleagues on other programs.
  • Research trends in museum education, youth & family programming, adult programming, and audience and audience profiles and needs. 
  • Represent Mia by sharing learning with colleagues across institutions and submitting conference proposals.

The Job

The Senior Manager of Guides and Volunteers at the Minneapolis Institute of Art will play a key role in developing and leading a team of educators and over 150 guides/volunteers. Both staff and volunteers engage with K-12 students and adult audiences, requiring a nuanced understanding of diverse learning needs and backgrounds. This position includes designing and implementing tours and comprehensive training programs for the volunteers. 

 

Critical aspects of this position include the recruitment, training, engagement and retention of a diverse pool of volunteers. The manager will prioritize building a volunteer base that reflects the variety of communities we serve, ensuring inclusivity in both the recruitment process and throughout training initiatives. This involves not only reaching out to diverse groups but also providing training that fosters an environment of respect, equity, and cultural competence. In this role, you will…

1.  LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISORY

  • Supervise and provide guidance to staff and tour guides/volunteers, ensuring high performance, professionalism and mission and strategic alignment.
  • Support staff educators in providing regular training and development sessions for guides to ensure they are      knowledgeable, engaging, and consistent in delivering museum tours.
  • Collaborates with and is the main staff liaison for the Guide Council to ensure alignment with the museum's goals and objectives. The individual serves as the primary point of contact between the Guide Council and museum management.
  • Create/maintain roles and responsibilities, guidelines and policies, performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback for staff and guides/volunteers. Support career development for staff. 
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, open communication, and a commitment to the museum’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Supports their team with handling scheduling conflicts, guide performance opportunities or issues, and ensure that staffing needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Significant time spent with staff and volunteers on tours and front of house experience. Will provide support      for guide volunteer training and tours. 

 

2.  PROJECT, PROCESS, AND BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee all aspects of the tour guide and volunteer programs, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality visitor experiences.
  • Streamline and maintain processes for scheduling tours and assigning guides, ensuring smooth coordination and effective use of resources.
  • Develop and manage the tour guide program budget, tracking expenses and ensuring that financial goals are met.
  • Create and implement processes for evaluating and improving the efficiency of the guide scheduling system.
  • Works cross-departmentally to coordinate logistics for special tours, events, and exhibitions, ensuring timely and effective support from staff, tour guides and volunteers.

 

3.  STRATEGY

  • Collaborate with the Learning and Programming team to develop and refine the museum’s tour and      educational strategies, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Learning and Programming on a tour guide roadmap that will provide direction and growth for the guide program that includes DEI and community engagement initiatives for staff, guides/volunteers and visitors. 
  • Contribute to the creation of new tour programs and initiatives that enhance visitor experience and meet strategic institutional objectives. Reevaluate current programs and determine opportunities to streamline.
  • Monitor trends in visitor engagement and the museum industry to suggest and implement improvements to the tour program.
  • Work with marketing and public relations teams to promote tour offerings, and contribute to visitor feedback collection and analysis.

 

4. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

  • Assist with other duties as required or assigned, including special projects, event coordination, and museum initiatives that support the mission of the institution.
  • Represent the museum at meetings, community outreach events, or other engagements as needed.

  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and thorough understanding of trends in engagement and programming.

· Master's degree with relevant experience. Advanced degree or certifications in art history, museum studies, or art education preferred.

· 5–7 years of proven success in the creating and delivering training for volunteers or guides, as well as the creation of tours or interpretive materials or lessons for not only K-12 audiences, but for adults and general audiences in a cultural setting.

· 5-7 years of experience in museums, cultural institutions, non profit, K-12 or higher education settings.

· At least 5 years in a supervisory or management role focused in building and leading an engaged and collaborative team and staff. Capable of motivating and engaging paid staff.

· Skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, volunteer management software, and project-management software (Asana preferred)

The Job

Supervises and supports in cleaning with the janitorial crew in a manner that results in a clean and safe environment.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

1. Oversees and manages all work of the janitorial crew

· Establishes cleaning schedules and assigns work to ensure that ongoing cleaning of the museum is accomplished

· Performs quality control inspections to ensure high standards are maintained.

· Provides training in new products and cleaning techniques as required

The Job

To develop, research, exhibit, and publish Mia’s collections of American Art.

 

In this role, you will….

1. Interpret the museum’s collections of American Art through permanent collection gallery displays and didactic materials. Propose and oversee regular gallery rotations. Speak publicly about the museum’s collection and provide training for museum guides so that they can accurately and knowledgeably represent the collection. 

 

2. Conduct research and mount special exhibitions, with accompanying publications that add to the field of knowledge about American Art. Such exhibitions should be of the scale of Cargill and/or US Bank Galleries, but do not preclude larger-scaled shows. 

 

3. Oversee the care and preservation of the collection by ensuring proper and responsible handling and installation of objects and by recommending objects for conservation treatment. Participate in the museum’s efforts to secure funding for conservation initiatives. 

 

4. Locate, research, and propose acquisition of American works of art that significantly augment the museum’s existing collections. Review the museum collections of American Art for potential deaccessions. Maintain a current knowledge of the art market and professional relations with art dealers. 

 

5. Develop and coordinate lectures and activities pertaining American Art for the museum’s Art of the Americas Affinity group. Foster and maintain relationships with trustees, collectors, potential donors, and the general public, including community outreach.

 

6. Actively participate in broader museum initiatives through committees or specially formed teams. 

 

7. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned, including assisting the head of the department as assigned.

The Job

To develop, research, exhibit, and publish Mia’s collections of Native American art.

 

In this role, you will….

1. Interpret the museum’s collections of Native American art through permanent collection gallery displays and didactic materials. Propose and oversee regular gallery rotations. Speak publicly about the museum’s collection and provide training for museum guides so that they can accurately and knowledgeably represent the collection. 

 

2. Conduct research and mount special exhibitions, with accompanying publications that add to the field of knowledge about Native American art. Such exhibitions should be of the scale of Cargill and/or US Bank Galleries, but do not preclude larger-scale shows. 

 

3. Oversee the care and preservation of the collection by ensuring proper and responsible handling and installation of objects and by recommending objects for conservation treatment. Participate in the museum’s efforts to secure funding for conservation initiatives. 

 

4. Locate, research, and propose acquisition of Native American works of art that significantly augment the museum’s existing collections. Review the museum collections of Native American art for potential deaccessions. Maintain a current knowledge of the art market and professional relations with art dealers. 

 

5. Develop and coordinate lectures and activities pertaining to Native American art for the museum’s Native American Art Affinity Group. Foster and maintain relationships with trustees, collectors, potential donors, and the general public, including community outreach.

 

6. Actively participate in broader museum initiatives through committees or specially formed teams. 

 

7. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned, including assisting the head of the department as assigned.

Specific Requirements

· M.A. in the field of Art History with specialization in Native American art & culture; Ph.D. desirable.

· Proficiency in applicable languages. 

· Minimum of 3 years of employment in a collection-based curatorial department with direct experience in the area of Native American art, including proven record of organizing exhibitions and producing publications of high quality. 

· Demonstrated ability to write interpretive material

· Significant demonstrated art historical research skills and experience

The Job

Work with the museum’s Director, Deputy Director, and curators to develop exhibitions that broaden Mia’s audience and enhance Mia’s brand and reputation. Establish strategic partnerships with sister organizations to co-develop important exhibitions. In order to fully capitalize on Mia’s special exhibition program, work to solidify the museum’s special exhibition calendar at least five to seven years out.

 

In this role, you will…

1. Develop art historically significant exhibitions that broaden Mia’s audience while enhancing its reputation and brand.

· Vet and optimize exhibition proposals.

· Ensure that the goals and strategy for special exhibitions are articulated in the Exhibition Brief. 

· Oversee development of adult programs as they relate to exhibitions.

· Oversee the process to create a title and blurb for each special exhibition. 

· Oversee the exhibition team (Smart Team) for each special exhibition, working in close collaboration across divisions by managing implementation schedules as well as outlining important milestones and tracking their completion

· Work with the Head of Exhibition to ensure the project stays within budget and adheres to the negotiated contract.

· Work with the Manager of Curatorial Project Management towards project management best practices, such as detailed project schedules and communication platforms (Asana).

 

2. Procure exhibition partnerships among sister museums worldwide. 

· Alert the Director, Deputy Director of potentially advantageous partnerships evolving at sister organizations at the ground level. 

· Connect Mia’s curators to relevant personnel at sister organizations with an eye to developing partnerships

 

3. Supervisory duties

· Supervise Head of Exhibition

· Supervise Head of Interactive Media

· Supervise Exhibition Designer 

 

4. Place Mia exhibitions at other art museum venues

· Working with Mia’s curators, develop “sell sheets” and “fact sheets” for Mia generated exhibition as marketing tools to secure additional venues

· Scout for potential venues for Mia generated exhibitions

 

5. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

· Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
