Gallery Guard – Paris Couture Exhibition

Shift: typically Friday - Wednesday 9:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m., Thursday 9:45 a.m. – 9:15 p.m.

The Job

Mia is looking for individuals to patrol the museum galleries to maintain safety and security and to welcome our visitors. Temporary positions are available with the possibility of returning for upcoming special exhibitions. 

In this role, you will…

  • Patrol galleries to prevent vandalism, disturbances, and generally maintain order.
  • Maintain a visual inventory of the artwork and the physical structure in assigned area.
  • Be a positive and supportive Mia representative in all interactions with visitors and members.
  • Report any incident involving visitors touching or damaging artwork, suspicious activity, or safety hazards.
  • Assist museum patrons with directions, general inquiries, and museum rules.
  • Provide assistance to patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Uniforms and training are provided.

Event Lead

Events Department

Full time, 37.5 hours/week, Union position

Starting Hourly Rate: $29.65 – $33.15 depending on qualifications

 

The Job

Coordinate, organize, and manage logistics and operations of events, programs, and meetings for internal and external museum clients in a manner that furthers the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s mission statement. Execute a cross-functional event sales plan that will promote Mia as a premier event space to individual and corporate clients. Meet or exceed gross and net sales goals. Work evening and weekend hours to facilitate events and provide back-up assistance as needed.

 

In this role, you will….

  • Coordinate the logistics and operations of events, programs, and meetings for internal and external museum clients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain professional, trusting, and collaborative relationships with Mia’s internal and external clients and to interact appropriately with diverse groups of people.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Communicate with clients regarding their event and program specifications.
  • Coordinate event and program logistics.
  • Coordinate basic catering and advanced orders with caterer on behalf of client.
  • Determine and coordinates equipment and AV needs.
  • Create and update event orders and floor plans.
  • Oversee room setup and client load-in/load-out.
  • Prepare preliminary and final budgets for clients.
  • Coordinate necessary invoicing and billing.
  • Send thank-you letters post event.
  • Onsite event coordination.
  • Provide facilities tours.
  • Support execution of the department sales plan that meets or exceeds annual gross and net sales goals.
  • Work with Event Manager to establish revenue goals and strategies and to meet or exceed those goals.
  • Create and execute the implementation of event and meeting benefits and enhancements to increase sales revenue.
  • Establish a presence with professional organizations that will support the growth of our external events business (e.g. MPI, Meet Minneapolis, and Downtown Council).
  • Assist with larger-scale events, as directed.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

The Job

To clean and maintain various areas of the museum as assigned.

 

 

In this role, you will….

1. Keep assigned areas of the building clean and orderly by doing some or all of the following functions:

  • Vacuum carpet
  • Empty waste baskets and collect paper for the recycling bin
  • Clean bathrooms
  • Clean glass and brass with proper cleaning products
  • Maintain and clean floors using proper floor care products, machines, and techniques

2. Keep work area orderly and keep all equipment clean. 

3. Perform minor maintenance on cleaning equipment or notify Building Services Manager if repair work is required

4. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned, including during special events outside of regular schedule

  • Prior maintenance experience

Physical Requirements: standing for extended periods of time, bending, arms above head, lifting 30 lbs. (more than that with assistance). Must be able to work around cleaning solvents and chemicals using proper PPE.

 

Equipment Operated: shampoo machine, vacuum cleaner, walk-behind auto scrubber, riding scrubber, etc.

The Job

Hands-on facility operations leader who can balance facilities expertise and exceptional people skills to lead a team and deliver results. Focus on process improvement related to the maintenance of the building and campus components, including locks/doors, roofs, walls, office moves, janitorial and all season grounds maintenance. Coordinate, track, and drive scheduled, preventative and proactive work related to the campus.

 

In this role, you will…

1. Oversee building service delivery

  • Supervise the repair and maintenance of buildings, as well as custodial and grounds operations on the Mia campus.
  • Assess the condition and performance of the campus.
  • Monitor progress and facilitate prioritization of work orders, preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and implement service level expectations regarding the timely response and execution of repairs, updates and cleaning.
  • Working with staff, develop a robust PM program.
  • Inspect buildings, site and equipment with staff to determine maintenance and repair needs, and set the schedule for effective execution.
  • Create reports on efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain and updates CMMS
  • Manage and review service contracts.
  • Manage procurement of parts, tools, equipment and supplies. 
  • With the Head of Facilities, track and review budget related to repairs and maintenance.
  • Review and maintain replacement parts inventory.
  • Ensure permits and licenses are current and up to date.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency response to campus emergencies.
  • Provide department leadership in the absence of Head of Facilities.

2. Supervise and lead staff

  • Responsible for hiring, promotion, and corrective action.
  • Determine appropriate daily staffing, including weekend, holiday, overtime and on-call schedule.
  • Set clear work direction, lead by example, coach, problem solve and promote teamwork.
  • Assign and prioritize work for the team via CMMS program
  • Plan, schedule, and manage complex building maintenance, operation, repair and custodial activities.
  • Communicate organizational messages.
  • Provide regular professional development opportunities.

  • Work with the Head of Facilities to establish short and long term capital projects, as it relates to campus operations.
  • Work with Facilities leadership to communicate project plans and impact out to Mia staff and our partners.

4. Other

  • Determine training needs for the department and coordinate.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Provide support for other facility related activities.

  • Minimum of five years’ related work experience leading hands-on, technical work
  • Relevant experience in building maintenance and operations including planning and scheduling complex repairs and upgrades, planning and scheduling preventative maintenance for multiple facilities
  • Ability to respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies as needed
  • Experience in a cultural institution a plus

The Job

The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for managing the monthly, quarterly, and yearly close process, and maintaining and ensuring that the general ledger is positioned to allow for accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

In this role, you will

  • Manage the monthly/yearly close process and maintain the GL to ensure all internal and external reports are accurate
  • Monitor and analyze monthly reconciliation of all B/S accounts resolving and correcting errors in a timely manner
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual JE as required for month end close and audit
  • Serve as backup to the Controller in managing financial operations
  • Assist Head of Budget & Financial Planning in management of restricted funds and grants
  • Serve as software- liaison with IS department and software vendors
  • Assist in design of management reports using accounting system with input from Controller and Head of Budget
  • Train general accounting staff in accounting systems
  • Prepare audit workpapers and assist with 990 and associated tax returns
  • Maintain and manage reconciliation of fundraising activity (Salesforce to NetSuite)
  • Coordinate and assist with periodic internal Works Of Art (WOA) inventory testing and annual WOA audit testing
  • Review and manage monthly AP activity (PO closeouts, exp reimbursement, etc.)
