Temporary, part-time (22.5 hours weekly), non-exempt
Hourly rate: $20.00
Onsite; not eligible for relocation
Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Duration: Approximately June - August
The Role
The Social Media Intern will assist in creating, implementing, and tracking dynamic social content to elevate the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s (Mia) social media presence. This role uses storytelling to connect diverse audiences with the museum’s collections, exhibitions, programming, and people. The internship offers practical experience in social media video production, writing, editing, and digital marketing within a renowned cultural institution and an opportunity to work with the leadership team to build their personal online brand.
As part of the internship, the candidate will develop a portfolio project centered around Mia’s Summer Programming Series of events.
In this role, you will…
Content Creation
- Conceptualize, shoot, and edit short-form videos for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Create image, video, and text posts across Mia’s social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, and post in-platform and schedule posts using Sprout
- Ensure that the content reflects Mia’s mission and maintains accessibility and inclusivity standards, including captioning and alt text where applicable.
Community Engagement
- Monitor performance metrics (views, shares, and comments) and suggest adjustments to strategies to enhance reach and engagement.
- Respond to comments and questions on social media platforms.
- Work with social media specialist and marketing specialist to create a list of “best practice responses” for typical user-generated comments
Campaign Support
- Partner with a social media specialist to create content to promote exhibitions, programs, and events, supporting marketing initiatives.
- Research emerging trends in video content and propose creative ideas tailored to Mia’s brand.
Analytics and Reporting
- Use analytics tools (Sprout) to measure engagement and compile performance reports with actionable insights.
- Analyze and present findings to the team to refine video content strategies.
Collaboration
- Partner with curators, educators, and museum staff to source compelling stories and subject matter for social projects.
- Attend exhibitions, installations, and museum events to create timely, real-time content.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field, OR has completed at least three (3) years of undergraduate coursework by the start of the internship
- Strong video production skills, including shooting, editing, and storytelling.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro
- Experience with social media platforms emphasizing video content (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube).
- Understanding of best practices for accessibility in video, including captioning.
- Creative thinker with a passion for art, museums, and storytelling.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, YouTube Studio, or platform insights, is a plus.
