Mechanical Maintenance Specialist

Full-time (37.5 hours weekly), non-exempt, union

Pay Range: $38.57 – $41.39 hourly

Onsite; not eligible for relocation

 

The Job

To assist in the preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance measures at Mia for building heating, cooling, and humidity control systems and the maintenance and operation of central boiler and chiller plants.

 

Shift: 

  • Sunday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., plus 1 week of 24-hour on-call every 5 weeks 
  • 37.5 weekly hours, 7.5 daily hours

 

In this role, you will….

  • Work closely with the Mechanical Crew Chief and the Assistant Mechanical Crew Chief to ensure all Mia mechanical equipment is kept safe and up to code. Gain a solid understanding of all Mia building systems: HVAC pneumatic and direct digital controls, BAS and VAV systems, A/C units, cooling towers, compressors, emergency electrical power generators, physical heating and cooling plant circulating pumps, ventilation units, refrigeration units, exhaust systems, PRV stations, and all other related physical plan equipment.
  • Assist in the operation of steam boiler and chiller plants, and related sub systems. Measure, monitor and manage water chemistry.
  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance on all building systems (monthly, quarterly, and annual cleaning, lubrication, belts and filters) as well as corrective maintenance as directed by Mechanical Crew Chief.
  • Repair and maintenance of basic plumbing systems- valves, faucets, sinks, toilets, drains, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and complete written work orders, maintain records, communicate status of equipment and repairs to Mechanical Maintenance Crew Chief, Physical Plant Manager and other Mia staff as needed. 
  • Participate in seminars, safety training classes, and other core job related training and educational activities and other duties or responsibilities as required or assigned.

Specific Requirements

Required:  

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have Special Boiler License - or ability to get within 90 days
  • Basic working knowledge of facilities maintenance. 
  • Familiarity with restaurant equipment and walk-in coolers.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to assist in building emergencies, and work weekends as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Field-related vocational education in HVACR, or equivalent trade related training

  • Kewanee Boilers – 525 hp
  • Bryan Steam Boilers – 30 hp
  • Bryan Hot Water Boilers – 86 hp
  • York Centrifugal Chillers – 500 ton and 350 ton
  • York Reciprocating Chiller – 80 ton
  • McQuay and Haakon Air Handlers
  • PC-windows 10
  • KMC Energy Management System (BAS)
  • Ziegler Diesel Emergency Generator
  • Voss VAV Drives
  • Various RTU, MAU, and AHUs located throughout the Mia’s facility.
